Sheraton Old San Juan Hotel Unveils Multi-Phase, Top-to-Bottom Renovation Total Overhaul Encompasses Guest Rooms, Suites, Lobby, Rooftop Pool, Meeting & Banquet Facilities San Juan, Puerto Rico – April 20, 2017 – The Sheraton Old San Juan Hotel, located in the heart of the Caribbean’s most visited city, is putting the finishing touches on a multi-phase, year-long renovation. The top-to-bottom overhaul touched upon the entirety of the 240-room property, from the lobby and public spaces, to an all-new rooftop pool. Each and every one of its guest rooms, 198 in total, and 38 of its 42 suites will be completed by May 2017. There will be a grand finale this fall when the nearly 1,100 square-foot Presidential Suite and a trio of newly renovated and expanded Governor’s Suites will be unveiled. The meeting and banquet facilities were unveiled in January of this year. Upon entering the updated lobby at the Sheraton Old San Juan the impressive signature staircase cannot be missed. There is a coastal-inspired color palette, with blue accents reflective of the nearby ocean, which lends itself to a welcoming linger-a-little longer feel about it. The inviting space has all-new furnishings, most notably a communal table with easily accessible USB ports that make it conducive to networking and casual meetings. The coastal charm carries into the guest rooms and suites with a sky blue and sand-hued palette creating the perfect balance of color and neutrality. The rooms are the ultimate spot for rest and relaxation, while still accommodating the needs of those traveling for work. All of the hotel’s accommodations now feature the ultra-comfortable Sheraton Sleep Experience® beds. In response to an increasing number of leisure getaways, the hotel has added nearly two dozen more double-bedded accommodations; this room type represents nearly 50% of the property’s inventory with 100 now available. Another noteworthy addition to the rooms are mini refrigerators, a homelike touch that is ideal for guests to store beverages and late-night snacks to enjoy at their leisure. "In planning and executing this extensive renovation, we kept all of our valued guests in mind,” said General Manager Larry Vitale. “The rooftop pool is important to our leisure guests, while state-of-the art meeting rooms and banquet facilities are critical for our corporate and group clients, as well as the local community for social events. We looked at all our market segments and made sure we were addressing what matters most to them as we made plans for the ‘new’ Sheraton Old San Juan Hotel. We are extremely proud of the outcome.” The 9,000 square feet of meeting and banquet space features new furniture, carpeting, wall covering, lighting and more. The rooftop pool, sitting high atop the nine-story hotel, is sure to be a popular spot for leisure guests and business travelers alike. It has all-new furniture, including cozy loungers for enjoying Puerto Rico’s warm weather, and spectacular views of San Juan Bay and the new Bahia Urbana Boardwalk. Here is a video I got of a silver phase red fox (aka silver fox) on San Juan Island. Went on a short 2 mile hike along the trail connecting south beach with American Camp and as I was heading back towards my car (was getting late and didn't want to miss the ferry I had reservations for), I saw this fox walking around and took advantage of the opportunity to get a video of him. There is a story behind this video and it is also worth mentioning that this guy was not the only fox I saw that day too. I've been curious about the red fox population here in Washington State and I have heard that San Juan Island (especially the American Camp area on the island) is a really good place to see them (along with Mount Rainer). Seen pictures and videos of them and been wanting to see them for myself so early on in October, I took the ferry to San Juan Island and ultimately went hiking around in the South Beach and American Camp areas and while I was there I encountered the foxes. Many of the foxes i saw were in the field and was able to see them with my binoculars pretty well, though some would get close to the trail too. They are small enough that they can blend in the tall grass and sometimes they can pop up right by you (happened to me twice) , though usually they will run off as soon as they see you. Eventually after going to the American Camp area I had to turn back and head towards my car (time was getting short and didn't want to miss the ferry back) and as I was back in the south beach area, I saw this silver fox walking around. He was retreating towards the bushes, though he did seem somewhat tolerant of me watching him so I kept my distance, pulled out my windows phone and filmed him. Pretty cute to watch. I meant to bring my digital camera with me (could have gotten some closer shots of the foxes that way), but forgot to bring it, so I only had my windows phone (plus I didn't want to spook the fox either) . The foxes I saw came in 2 varieties: the silver foxes (like the one in the video) and the regular type red fox (the ones with the orangish red coats). All and all, I had a blast and might consider visiting the island again next year sometime (I don't know when, but if I get the opportunity to revisit the island, I will) and maybe get more footage of them too. I can definitely say that the foxes are quite active on San Juan Island (especially in the American Camp and South Beach areas) and were definitely worth seeing. Nice day too. Boston also served as the county seat of Suffolk County until Massachusetts disbanded most county governments by 2000. The city proper covers 48 square miles (124 km2) with an estimated population of 667,137 in 2015, making it the largest city in New England and the 23rd largest city in the United States. The city is the economic and cultural anchor of a substantially larger metropolitan area called Greater Boston is the home to 4.7 million people and the tenth-largest metropolitan statistical area in the country. Greater Boston as a commuting region is home to 8.1 million people making it the sixth-largest combined statistical area in the United States. Boston is one of the oldest cities in the United States, Boston was founded on the Shawmut Peninsula in 1630 by Puritan settlers from England. It was the scene of several key events of the American Revolution such as the Boston Massacre, the Boston Tea Party, the Battle of Bunker Hill, and the Siege of Boston. Upon U.S. independence from Great Britain, the city continued to be an important port and manufacturing hub, as well as a center for education and culture. Through land reclamation and municipal annexation Boston has expanded beyond the original peninsula. Its rich history attracts many tourists, with Faneuil Hall alone drawing over 20 million visitors per year. Boston's many firsts include the United States' first public school, Boston Latin School (1635), first subway system (1897) and the first public park in (1634). The area's many colleges and universities make Boston an international center of higher education, including law, medicine, engineering, and business, and the city is considered to be a world leader in innovation and entrepreneurship. Boston's economic base also includes finance, professional and business services, biotechnology, information technology, and government activities. Households in the city claim the highest average rate of philanthropy in the United States; businesses and institutions rank among the top in the country for environmental sustainability and investment. The city has one of the highest costs of living in the United States, though it remains high on world livability rankings. Boston's early European settlers had first called the area Trimountaine (after its "three mountains"—only traces of which remain today) but later renamed it Boston after Boston, Lincolnshire, England, the origin of several prominent colonists. The renaming, on September 7, 1630 (Old Style),[28][b] was by Puritan colonists from England who had moved over from Charlestown earlier that year in quest of fresh water. Their settlement was initially limited to the Shawmut Peninsula, at that time surrounded by the Massachusetts Bay and Charles River and connected to the mainland by a narrow isthmus. The peninsula is known to have been inhabited as early as 5000 BC. In 1629, the Massachusetts Bay Colony's first governor, John Winthrop, led the signing of the Cambridge Agreement. State Street, 1801 Many of the crucial events of the American Revolution the Boston Massacre, the Boston Tea Party, Paul Revere's midnight ride, the battles of Lexington and Concord and Bunker Hill, the Siege of Boston, and many others occurred in or near Boston. After the Revolution, Boston's long seafaring tradition helped make it one of the world's wealthiest international ports, with the slave trade, rum, fish, salt, and tobacco being particularly important. Boston was an early port of the Atlantic triangular slave trade in the New England colonies, but was soon overtaken by Salem, Massachusetts and Newport, Rhode Island. Eventually Boston became a center of the abolitionist movement. The city reacted strongly to the Fugitive Slave Law of 1850, contributing to President Franklin Pierce's attempt to make an example of Boston after the Anthony Burns Fugitive Slave Case. In 1822 the citizens of Boston voted to change the official name from the "Town of Boston" to the "City of Boston", and on March 4, 1822 the people of Boston accepted the charter incorporating the City. At the time Boston was chartered as a city, the population was about 46,226, while the area of the city was only 4.7 square miles (12 km2).
